The science of cold plasma

Cold Plasma Aboard Yachts

A yacht's interior is one of the most demanding indoor environments there is: sealed for air conditioning, humid outside, close quarters inside, and far from a hardware store. Here is how cold plasma fits that environment, and how to plan it vessel by vessel.

Why the air aboard is different

Closed-loop air

Once a yacht is buttoned up for air conditioning, the same air circulates through the same spaces for hours or days. Moisture, odors and microbes that get into it tend to stay.

Humidity and hidden moisture

Warm cruising grounds and constant temperature swings bring condensation into lockers, headliners and the spaces behind panels. That is where musty odors start.

Odors that travel

Galley cooking, heads and holding tanks, fuel and exhaust, smoke and pets. In a sealed interior, odors move from space to space through shared air.

Shared air, close quarters

Owners, guests and crew can share recirculated air for days or weeks. On charter, a new group steps aboard at every turnaround.

Why cold plasma suits a vessel

  • It treats the cabin it sits in. AURA has its own fan, so it works whether the A/C is cycling or not.
  • No airflow restriction. It adds no filter media to your air handlers.
  • Nothing to stock at sea. There are no replacement filters or cartridges. Upkeep is a wipe-down and a quick check every few weeks.
  • Light on power. 20 W at most and under 2 W on standby, through a 100–240 V adapter that suits shore power and generators worldwide.
  • Secure underway. At 5.5 × 11.5 × 2 in and 2.5 lb, it mounts to a flat surface or bulkhead at two points.

Planning a vessel

Plan one unit per enclosed space up to 376 sq ft. Larger salons and open-plan decks may call for two.

Space Typical concern Placement tip
Master and guest staterooms Mustiness, stale air overnight On a bulkhead near the A/C return, never aimed at the berth
Main salon and sky lounge Cooking and smoke odors, guest traffic Near existing airflow; consider two units in large salons
Crew quarters and crew mess Shared air in close quarters One per enclosed space
Galley and pantry Cooking odors, VOCs Away from steam, spray and wet areas
Media room Closed doors, little fresh air Within Wi-Fi range if you want app scheduling

From walkthrough to handover

  1. Vessel walkthroughYour authorized dealer reviews each space, its size, airflow and concerns.
  2. Placement planA unit count and mounting position for every space, with a written quote.
  3. InstallationUnits mounted and powered, the eWeLink app set up if wanted.
  4. HandoverBOOST confirmed off, and the captain and crew shown routine care.
Moisture first. AURA supplements your HVAC, ventilation and filters. For an active leak or a serious mold problem, remediation by a qualified professional comes first.

AURA is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Results vary with space size, airflow, installation and use.
