Aerion Systems
FAQ - Air Purification for Yachts, Homes, and Commercial Spaces
High-level Understanding
Aerion Systems is a cold plasma air purification solution designed for yachts, homes, and commercial environments. This technology actively removes odors, mold, bacteria, and airborne contaminants, helping maintain clean, healthy air in enclosed spaces. Below are answers to common questions about how Aerion works, safety, installation, and where it can be used.
What is Aerion Systems?
Aerion Systems provides advanced air purification technology for homes, offices, and yachts. We use cold plasma, a natural and powerful way to clean the air by removing germs, odors, allergens, and harmful particles. Learn more about Aerion Systems.
How does it work?
Our technology creates a special kind of energy (called cold plasma) that produces natural particles, similar to what happens during a thunderstorm. These particles destroy viruses, bacteria, mold, and pollutants floating in your air.
Think of it like lightning in a box, using nature's own way of purifying the atmosphere, now available in your home or office.
What’s the difference between Aerion and regular air purifiers?
Most air purifiers use filters to trap particles, but they can't catch everything, and they need to be changed often.
Aerion doesn't just trap, it destroys things like viruses, odors, and chemicals at a molecular level. That means cleaner air and less maintenance. Browse our air purification systems.
Is cold plasma the same as ionization?
No, and that's important. Unlike bipolar ionization, which clumps particles together, cold plasma neutralizes and destroys them completely. It mimics nature's own method of disinfecting the atmosphere, like what happens during a lightning storm.
Does Aerion Systems create Ozone?
Yes, it is one of the 7 mechanisms for cleaning the air. Aerion systems are designed to operate within safe ozone limits and include internal controls to manage emissions.
Is the Aerion Systems Ozone Free?
Yes, it has been evaluated in labs for ozone-free emissions. It uses a catalytic converter within the system to control emissions.
Is it safe for my family, pets, or employees?
Yes. Our systems are safe to run 24/7 while people and pets are in the space. There are no chemicals and no harmful byproducts.
What contaminants does Aerion eliminate?
Aerion Systems laboratory tests have shown it eliminates:
- Viruses
- Mold spores
- Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
- Bacteria
- Smoke, odors, and allergens
- Allergens like dust and dander
Where can I use it?
Aerion works great in:
- Homes (living rooms, bedrooms, nurseries, kitchens, bathrooms)
- Offices (conference rooms, shared spaces)
- Medical and dental clinics
- Boats and yachts
We offer systems for both small spaces and large buildings. View all systems.
Can I add it to my existing HVAC system?
Yes. Aerion can be installed into your existing heating and cooling system, or used as a standalone unit depending on your space. It's flexible and doesn't require major renovation.
Units can be wired into your existing HVAC system or plugged into an outlet within HVAC system space.
Is there an upgrade kit available?
Soon! This is in development. The Aerion Aura Sensor Upgrade Kit adds real-time air quality monitoring to your system, giving captains, owners, and technicians instant visibility into the air you breathe.
Can I retrofit Aerion onto an existing yacht?
Absolutely. Aerion systems are designed for easy retrofit into most HVAC setups, and we also offer integration packages for new builds through OEM and HVAC partners. Contact us to discuss your vessel.
Why is this important, specifically on a yacht?
Yachts are closed-loop environments with limited air circulation. This makes them vulnerable to air quality issues, from hidden mold to recycled viruses. Aerion Systems and its Aura line deliver clean, safe, and odor-free air, enhancing comfort and protecting health during every voyage.
How do I know it’s working?
You can feel the difference: fresher air, fewer smells, and reduced allergy symptoms. For more visibility, we offer an optional air quality sensor that shows real-time air cleanliness on your phone or wall display.
Who installs it?
Aerion works with licensed HVAC contractors and home service providers. We can connect you with a local installer or coordinate with your builder or technician. Get in touch to find an installer near you.
How do I get one?
Just reach out to us! We'll help you pick the right system and set up an install, whether for your home, office, or vessel. Contact us to get started or shop our systems.
What is Cold Plasma?
Non-Thermal Plasma is a partially ionized gas that contains a mix of energetic particles, such as ions, electrons, neutral molecules, UV photons, and reactive species.
It replicates atmospheric cleaning processes that happen naturally in lightning and upper air layers.
What are Reactive Species?
This is the "workhorse" of cold plasma technology. They are short-lived but highly active molecules and radicals that do most of the cleaning.
It creates Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) and Reactive Nitrogen Species (RNS):
- ROS examples: Hydroxyls, Superoxide, Hydrogen Peroxide, Ozone
- RNS examples: Nitric Oxide, Nitrogen Dioxide, Peroxynitrite
The Reactive Species damage cell walls, viral envelopes, and microbial DNA/RNA, inactivating bacteria, viruses, and mold. They oxidize complex organic compounds into harmless byproducts.
A List of Common Applications
